What is accessibility?
An accessible web site is one that the widest audience can view, read and navigate in order to meet the goals of the web site.

Unlike printed material, where every copy is exactly the same, a web site will look different to many viewers based on equipment, software and special needs.

Here's an example, viewer "A" has an IBM PC computer, using Microsoft Internet Explorer, with a 15 inch video screen set to 256 colors, viewer "B" has a G4 Mac, using an AOL browser, with a 24" plasma screen set to 16 million colors. Can both viewers read and navigate the site?

Now, here's the tough part. Viewer "C" has no screen at all, but uses screen reader software to translate the screen data to speech or Braille. Can this viewer also use the site?

Why accessibility is important:
Obviously, web sites are built to be used. If a web design firm doesn't address accessibility, some potential viewers may actually be turned away from content. Additionally, some public and government site have special regulations for ensuring that their site is usable by special needs viewers.

By understanding and taking the issue seriously, we are able to address it during web site design. This means including all ALT tags for pictures and graphics, minimizing "Click Here" link descriptions, including NO FRAMES text and navigation information and more. We also test each web site for accessibility with our own special needs user.

That's easy. Our President's husband, Lou Kolb, is totally blind. Kathy won't let us build a web site that he can't use. Since the beginning of the company in 1996, we've been acutely aware of accessibility issues and keep up to date on standards.
